Although Ninjala is a free-to-play online multiplayer game, GungHo Online Entertainment have implied that there will be much more in store for the bubble gum arena shooter than simply the online aspect, and Ninjala‘s story mode is one of those things.
Ninjala was originally supposed to release back in May, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 situation. Since then, GungHo Online Entertainment has been continuing to improve the game by offering a second beta testing and showing off the game through streams and dev diaries as they prepare for the new launch date of June 24.
Based on datamining from Twitter users OatmealDome and LeanYoshi, we learned that the story mode involves fending off the attacks of space ninja invasions. Those leaks also showed that you will be playing as someone named Van who is mentored by another character named Master Gramps. Other information implies that there are characters and such that are unique to the story that cannot be found elsewhere, which means the two modes will be completely separate of each other, probably in a similar way to that of Splatoon 2.
We do not have full details about pricing outside of Japan yet, but the story mode will be offered as downloadable content and will cost ¥1100 (About $11 USD). Apparently, there will be a discount initially, and early adopters will be able to pick up the DLC for only ¥495 (About $5 USD) for a limited time.
This is exciting news for players who are not huge fans of online games. Although Ninjala is clearly designed with multiplayer as the centerpiece, let’s hope that their story mode will hold as much water as Splatoon 2‘s.
