Koji Igarashi, aka IGA-san, the man behind Castlevania and the recently released Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, announced that the retro-style spin-off of Bloodstained called Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is getting a proper sequel thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the original. Inti Creates is once again behind the project, and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 will be coming soon to our favorite hybrid console, The Nintendo Switch.
You can read more about the game from their website, but here is a excerpt to help you understand what is happening in this tantalizing sequel:
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 brings classic 2D action and a dark, 8-bit aesthetic together with modern playability. The multiple-scenario structure of the previous title returns with an epic new story supervised by IGA (Koji Igarashi) himself.
Players take control of Zangetsu, a swordsman from the far east who bears a deep grudge against demonkind and the alchemists who summoned them. Zangetsu must battle his way to the demonic stronghold, but he doesn’t have to do it alone! Zangetsu can ally himself with a brand new cast of characters he meets along the way and add them to the playable roster. Each new character adds a variety of gameplay options, abilities, and ways to complete the game’s many stages.
The first game was a major hit on the eShop. After just one week, the game sold more than 100,000 copies, but 56% of those sales were on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Since this was only a planned spin-off, I can only imagine the surprise from both Inti Creates and IGA-san when they saw numbers like that.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 follows the same formula as the original, but this time Zangetsu is joined by Dominique, an exorcist of the church, Robert, a sharp-shooting soldier, and Hachi, a corgi equipped with magic armor.
It is awesome to see that they are expanding the universe and turning Bloodstained into a full-fledged franchise. These 8-bit versions tickle my nostalgia buttons, so if they can keep making these Curse of the Moon games, I will be happy.
