News Roundup – Yacht Club Games, Pokemon, and More!

My name is Jason, and I will be running the News Roundup this week. This past week was actually jam-packed with announcements, news, and random details, so I am going to do my best to highlight some of the bigger moments of the week. Instead of just making up excuses, let’s dive right into the News Roundup!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Alien Hominid Comes to Switch

The Behemoth announced this past week that Alien Hominid Invasion is coming to the Nintendo Switch. This is an awesome announcement, as it continues to solidify the relationship between the Behemoth and Nintendo. We got Castle Crashers on the Switch last year, so hopefully this means we may see more Behemoth titles arrive on the Switch in the future.

The Wonderful 101 Arrive on Switch Soon

The Wonderful 101 Remastered launching on Kickstarter earlier this year was a great surprise. Even more surprising than that was Platinum Games announcing when the game will release, which is right around the corner. It will launch in the US on May 19th, Europe will see it on May 22nd, and Japan will pick it up last on June 11th. I was excited for the remastering, but I was not expecting to get it so soon!

A New Mythical Pokemon Emerges

Details about a new mythical Pokemon for Sword and Shield was announced this past week, and it is the Dark and Grass-type monkey Pokemon called Zarude. The design looks very cool and follows in the same vein as Zeraora from Generation VII. No word yet on when we will see Zarude in the game, but there is plenty of video online to check out.

Yacht Club Games Presents

This past week, Yacht Club Games had a major presentation that showed off a whole lot and gave us plenty of things to look forward to.

First off, Cyber Shadow launches this fall on the Nintendo Switch, and it will support the Shovel Knight amiibo! Similar to how they function in the Shovel Knight games, the little fairies will float by your character and assist.

Shovel Knight Dig, the next big game in the Shovel Knight series, launches in 2021. I know that sounds like a while away, but Yacht Club puts a lot of love and energy into their games and this should be no different.

Yacht Club Games also announced Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, an action-packed puzzle adventure mashup like no other. It seems to be a falling block puzzle game with a dungeon-crawling twist and a lot of Shovel Knight. No news yet on a release date, but it is confirmed for the Switch.

NEW RELEASES

Rune Factory 4 Special

Marvelous has finally given Rune Factory 4 a home on the Switch with Rune Factory 4 Special. This is a great game packed with so much content and stuff to do. You can farm more necessities, fight monsters and bosses in dungeons, take care of the kingdom, and you can even get married. We reviewed this one this past week, if you are interested to check it out. I will include a link below.

Soul Axiom Rebooted

Soul Axiom Rebooted is an upgraded version of the original that came out on PC a few years ago. It is a wonderful first-person puzzle game at a really good price. It is not quite on the same level as The Witness, but this is absolutely worth your time and money if you are into this genre. Once again, I will include a link to our review of this below.

Bloodroots

Let me just say, Bloodroots is some of the most fun I have had in a video game ever. It is an action platformer on a 3D plane, and it makes you feel like you can conquer the world. You are able to use just about anything in your environment as a weapon, and it is equal parts awesome and comical. I cannot recommend this enough, but if you need more convincing, I will include my review of this down below as well.

EVENTS

Mewtwo & Kanto Starters Max Raid Battles

Starting this past week as part of a campaign for the Mewtwo Strikes Back BluRay releasing, Pokemon Sword and Shield players will be able to participate in Max Raid Battles that include the likes of Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and even Mewtwo. It is to be noted that this Mewtwo is impossible to catch, but it does offer great rewards for defeating it. This event lasts until March 2nd, so hurry up and get out there, trainers!

Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge

In Overwatch, you can earn unique rewards by winning games or even watching streams of Overwatch on Twitch. You can earn Mardi Gras-themes player icons, sprays, and even an epic skin for Ashe. It seems like a fun event, so get out there an play. You have until March 9th to enjoy this one.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

We reviewed a lot of games this week, so if you have not had a look at them yet, you can check them out from here on the News Roundup! Chelly reviewed Reed Remastered, a cute little puzzle game. Dana reviewed It Came From Space and Ate Our Brains, which is exactly what it sounds like. I reviewed Rune Factory 4 Special, Soul Axiom Rebooted, and Bloodroots, which kept me quite busy (Bloodroots, again, is excellent!). And finally, James over at SwitchWatchTV reviewed the excellent Metro Redux package that recently released on the Switch.
