COGEN: Sword of Rewind is a side-scrolling action platformer from Gemdrops. The game was announced earlier, and they even dropped a lovely trailer. It is in Japanese, so if you are unable to understand the language, much of the dialog and information will be difficult to understand. But enjoy the action, because this one looks like a game to keep an eye on.
The core mechanic of COGEN: Sword of Rewind is the ability to rewind time and correct your actions. We have seen this gimmick used plenty of times in the past, so it will be interesting to see how Gemdrops does their own unique spin on it.
There are some other cool mechanics in the trailer, like the ability to deflect projectiles, dash, and even wall jump.
The original story is from PROJECT : AKAZA THE PHANTOM KNOWLEDGE, a group associated with Unity Technologies Japan, the Japanese branch of Unity. Usually in 2D action platformers like this, we do not see a whole lot of emphasis on story and its development, but games like Azure Striker GUNVOLT have helped give a voice to good story telling and character building. Let’s hope that this game follows in the same footsteps.
