Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games – May 2018

I know, I know. I missed the Upcoming Games for April, but I was so busy giving you guys awesome reviews that I had to put it by the wayside for just one month. With May steaming towards us I’m back with a vengeance to tell you the five games we here at Switch Watch are most excited about. And my word, it is starting to get busy! With 2 big Nintendo releases, some classic games and the return of an indie darling, it’s a packed month, even with the delay to Dark Souls. Let’s get on with it in release date order!

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

DK is back. Again. Yes it’s another Wii U port special but for those who didn’t sample the delights of the great ape’s outing on that system are in for a treat. Tropical Freeze is, for me, Donkey Kong’s best game and one of the best platformers ever made, amazing visuals and music will delight newcomers and I’m sure there will be plenty of you wanting to double dip. With added Funky Kong for people who can’t handle the fiendish gameplay, this entry will also be accessible for kids too when it releases on the 4th of May.

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition

Okay. Yeah, it’s getting a little silly now.  But it’s yet another port that non-Wii U owners had been crying out for. This Dynasty Warriors spin-off smashed together with the Zelda franchise was a surprising and welcoming release back in 2014. 4 years later Koei-Tecmo feel the game deserves a bigger audience on the Nintendo Switch and why not? It will be the second Nintendo/Dynasty Warriors mashup on the Switch after the almost forgotten Fire Emblem Warriors but I feel most people agree that Hyrule probably did it better anyways. This release contains all of the DLC found in the original which is good because it was packed with content and will be released on the 18th of May.

Runner3

The Bit.Trip has had a series of whacky games in the weirdly retro indie franchise. By far the most loved, however, is the Runner series. Originally a WiiWare game, the second game graced the Wii U and it only seemed natural for the third game to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch as a console exclusive… for the time being, at least.

This one looks bigger and better than ever. This rhythm game looks great, it sounds amazing and it will no doubt bring joy to Nintendo Switch owners when it releases on May 22nd

Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2

Mega Man is having a quite a bit of a resurgence these days, with the Mega Man X collection on the way plus a brand new entry in the series in development, it’s time for Nintendo Switch owners to feel the Rockman love too by catching up with the Mega Man Legacy Collections which were released not too long ago.

Mega Man fans will no doubt be pleased to be picking up the collection on the console that most would say is his rightful home, on a Nintendo system.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2 are releasing on May 22nd.

Yoku’s Island Express

Yoku’s Island Express is on this list because it’s just so differently ambitious. It’s a pinball game mixed with an adventure game. Sure, that’s been done before to varying degrees of success, but this one looks to be on the money. A large open world tasking your little beetle to solve problems around the island is entirely done by manipulating the pinball contraptions laying around. You can even equip special abilities and stuff.

It looks beautiful and charming and we are sure it’s going to be a great success when it lands on the Switch and other consoles on the 29th of May.
