What Is Minecraft’s Super Duper Graphics Pack?
Nintendo Switch Minecraft Bedrock Edition
The Super Duper Graphics pack will greatly enhance the visuals of Minecraft.

After my previous error claiming that the Super Duper Graphics pack would be coming to the Nintendo Switch with the release of the Bedrock Edition update, I thought it would be nice to write an article detailing what exactly the graphics pack is and how it was revealed.

An E3 Reveal

At E3 2017, the Minecraft team revealed their plans to unify as many of the existing Minecraft platforms as possible to allow players on the Xbox, PC, phone and Switch to be able to play together.  It was originally dubbed the Better Together Update.  (Although now it has been renamed Minecraft Bedrock Edition.)

At the time this was announced, a new graphics pack was also revealed appropriately dubbed the Super Duper Graphics Pack.  What this pack promised was significantly enhanced lighting and slightly better rendered objects in the world such as railroads which weren’t simply flat textures.

Originally, this pack was meant to be released on the Xbox, PC, phone and VR versions of Minecraft in Fall 2017 with the Nintendo Switch release being delayed until 2017.  Unfortunately, this did not end up being the case, and it has still be as of yet unreleased on any platform.

On Minecraft’s official website, there is an apt description of what to expect from the pack.

This optional DLC pack is crammed full of excessive visual razzmatazz: light will filter in shimmering rays through cotton clouds, dappling the ground beneath fluttering foliage, and sparkling on the rippling waters. We have dynamic shadows! Directional lighting! Edge highlighting! Probably loads of other kinds of lighting I don’t understand!

When speaking of the Super Duper Graphics pack, the rendering lead, Cameron Egbert, said, “It will be anywhere that you can play Minecraft in the new version. It will improve any screen on which you play, but the best experience will be on Xbox One X.”

On the Xbox One X and PC, the game will be capable of being displayed in 4K resolution through this graphics pack, but it will still offer a visual treat for players on the Nintendo Switch when the pack becomes available.
