Turtle Beach Battle Buds are a wired in-ear gaming headset with a removable Microphone so you can use these for games like Fortnite or as regular headphones which are lightweight and easy to take with you if you are a mobile gamer like we are here at SwitchWatch. For for the grand sum of £24,99 or $29,99 respectively are these any good or just a waste of your money? Let’s find out in our review.

When you open up the box you are presented with the buds, a detachable microphone, a pouch to keep them in, instructions and some replaceable earbud tips and stabilisers to fit your ear.

I received the light blue colour ones and have to say I liked the look of them, they felt sturdy in the hand, one of my pet hates with products like this is when the wire that connects everything is too thin.

I have owned many buds in my time and one of the things that fail for me a lot are the cables, just due to pure wear and tear, so I was pleased to see the cable used here is thick which makes them feel more robust. The buds are pleasant looking and they feel like they have a decent enough quality which should be long lasting. The buds are like any normal buds you can buy, but the casings are pretty large and stick out of the ear which for me looked a little strange but I suspect that this is due to having to have the electronics housed so the detachable mic can be slotted in.

It would be good if in future Turtle Beach could make a decent wireless version, although more expensive it would add that bit extra in terms of portability and not having to worry about cables, which I have grown accustomed to now with other wireless sets of buds.

There are three bud sizes and I had to play around with these as well as the stabiliser wing sizes to get a snug fit, but it’s great that the options are there for differ

Even though the casings are large they didn’t feel uncomfortable in the ear which was good news. The mic does not reach the mouth, but I never felt like it was there as it’s so lightweight and can be adjusted, so you can adjust it to how you like it.

The inline remote feels sturdy too and has a mic mute button as well as volume controls which is certainly useful.

I was pleasantly surprised with these buds, they produce enough bass and for gaming, the sound was very clear. What really did surprise me was just how good the mic was, I did a lot of tests and it sounded very clear, friends playing Fortnite commented that these sounded excellent on their side which was good news. I asked my friend to use them so I could hear what the voice through the mic sounded like and it was fantastic for this price.

I have used bulky headsets which sounded worse and were double the price so a very good piece of equipment indeed. Where these didn’t excel so well was when I tried using them for music on my phone, they sounded a little muddy and had a little too much distortion. While I understand these are meant for gaming, it’s nice to have a product which is an all-in-one solution and this doesn’t quite hit the mark for listening to music. I would carry two different sets of buds, these for gaming and my wireless set for music.

When you are in the heat of a game like Fortnite, these were just perfect for my needs, especially using my Switch in handheld mode although they can be used on other consoles too & PC. I really think that these are perfect for the Nintendo Switch though and are great to use on the move.

It’s so simple to plug in and play that you don’t even have to think about it, plug in the 3.5mm jack to the Switch, plug in the mic to the casing on the earphone and you are ready to go. These are headphones designed for gaming and to be fair they excel in what they were made for.

I have used these for a month almost daily, and always like to put products like these through their paces for at least a month of use, before commenting on durability. I will update if anything goes wrong with them throughout the next 12 months, but so far I have had no issues and have used them these days without a problem. I have killed a few headphones within a month, but as yet no issues here and I don’t foresee any anytime soon.

These are just £24,99 or $30 and can be bought through Amazon here [amazon_link asins=’B07MJV4LTY’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’switwatc-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’d2598e33-8cc0-4510-a300-62d9333fc931′]

I think for the price of these they are certainly worth it, purely on how cheap they are and the performance they give for the money. The fact they are so flexible is a massive bonus too.
