Originally baffled by Over The Moon’s decision to bring The Fall Part 2 Unbound to the Nintendo Switch prior to releasing the original game on the system in my review, The Fall Part 1 has finally been announced for the console and will be here soon. In less than a week on May 10th, the title will be released on the eShop.
The Fall is a sort of Metroidvania series which follows the protagonist, Arid, as she comes to grips with her nature as a robotic AI that is trying to break free of the cycle of preprogrammed rules. Her very nature is tested as she struggles to overcome this perplexing situation in both games of the series.
In the first part of the series, we learn that Arid is an AI body suit for a man named Colonel Josephs. When their ship crash lands on an unknown planet, it is up to Arid to take control to find help and save the man she is programmed to protect. In order to do so, she must overcome her set parameters to accomplish this, but in doing so, her system becomes increasingly unstable. She must navigate a catacomb-like maze of a world solving puzzles and defeating enemies along the way in this sidescrolling adventure game.
