Trine: Ultimate Collection

James: Kicking things off with my pick of the week for best bargains, and it is Trine: Ultimate Collection. The Trine series is a wonderful puzzle platformer with RPG elements thrown in. Each is a blast in which you control 3 characters, a wizard, a warrior, and a thief, together as they make the Trine, and it is in using all 3 characters’ skills that you will achieve your objectives. The games looks gorgeous on the Switch and the controls work really well here. These are interesting and fun games alone, but if you get friends together in co-op, each is an exceptional experience.

As well as the original trilogy, this epic pack includes Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince which returns to Trine’s beloved 2.5D roots. In it, you get to discover the mysterious Prince Selius, a troubled young wizard whose dark dreams have materialized to wreak havoc in reality. Each tale is a blast, and having all four titles which are fantastic to play with someone, this is the ultimate lockdown package for bargains.

Fast RMX

bargains fast rmx

Jordan: Hello, everyone. Jordan here with my pick of the week for Best Bargains. Now, I know what you’re going to say. 30% off may not instantly strike you as a bargain, and that’s a fair point, but my comeback to you is – Fast RMX. Yes! This remixed highly augmented and upgraded release of Fast Racing Neo was one of the Switch’s launch titles on the eShop and still remains an absolute classic. If you’re wanting to scratch that F-zero or Wipeout itch, then this is the game for you. It doesn’t go on sale often, and when it does, 30% is usually what we get. But in our opinion, it’s most definitely worth it if you’re into futuristic racers. I’ve been dying for this to come out physically, but the developers remain stubborn, perhaps due to Nintendo’s involvement in its development, but either way, it’s worth a download.

Hypercharge Unboxed

Juan: This week I am going for Hypercharge Unboxed due to a couple of reasons. The first is that it’s great to play with friends during this lock down, because it’s easy to play with friends online and locally with split screen. Up to 4 players can play online to take on the levels in co-op or you can play death match too. You can check out our review HERE. The 2nd reason is because there has been a great update lately which has brought a wealth of new features. One again, we have you covered on those details, so go here to read or watch them. With 30% off now, this is a top game to play and buy.

Great picks for Best Bargains, guys. Next up, it’s Bastion!

Bastion

Bastion is an action RPG with solid gameplay and all of the classic areas you expect from this type of game; progression, different play styles, and various weapons. But what really makes Bastion stand out is its silky style and exceptional narration. You feel as though you are sitting down to hear this tale over a bottle of wine with a wise elder! Its style is equally brilliant full of bright colors and characters. If you never got a chance to experience this on other platforms, you are missing out, and even if you did it’s worth a second dip at this price!

Ape Out

Another hit published by Devolver Digital, Ape Out is a beat-em-up that’s easy to pick up and a blast to play. You play as a big old gorilla on the lose trying to escape from gun wielding humans. Each level is procedurally generated, and the simple and bold visuals work very well. But the star of the show is the music! As you smash humans to bits, the music responds and you get into a rhythm. This one is all about fun. A good pick up at half the price!

Diablo III

bargains diablo 3

The classic dungeon raider is fantastic on the Nintendo Switch as a solo experience. But I have always found it to be a game best enjoyed with friends, and we have a few options here. You can play with a single Switch where each play with a JoyCon. It’s a slightly odd way to play given the lack of buttons, but it is surprisingly not too bad. Things get better when you have a pro controller each, though.

Advertisements

Up to four of you can play locally this way and delve into the depths to get that loot! Another awesome option is local wireless play. You and up to three friends can play on separate Switches locally without the need for an internet connection. Online multiplayer options that you are familiar with from other consoles are here as well, making this a strong contender for the top Nintendo Switch co-op game which featured highly in our list.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a much-lauded remake of three classic games. It was already a decent value at a full price $40, but with 50% off, it’s a no-brainer in our opinion. $20 for 3 awesome games that will occupy you for a long, long time. It’s a collection that’s great for newcomers wanting to experience these games for the first time, and it’s perfect for those nostalgic for these PlayStation 1 games. Although, you may want to play with cheap controllers, because we’re sure some controller throwing will go on. It’s tougher than you remember! But still a quality purchase either way.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

When recreating classics, it’s always dangerous ground. You can lose the original gameplay, or indeed the game can age poorly. Thankfully, Spyro Reignited doesn’t suffer from either. The gameplay is exactly as remembered with a shiny new coat of paint that has been lovingly applied to these classics. Lots of nice details have been added from new animations on Spyro to the ability to burn grass. It’s easy to forget just how blocky the game world was. It looks like a stunning game that was made for the modern era, and those coming back to play this years later will love it and those experiencing for the first time can enjoy it too!, A real steal at half price.

Golf Story

The premise of golf story is that you play someone who as a kid had aspirations to become a golf pro but failed. Fast forward and you’re the underdog, determined to make your childhood dream come true and get out there proving everyone wrong! It oozes SNES-era charm through its lush pixelated graphics and soundtrack that piles the pressure on as you make shots.

The beauty of this game is how it has managed to take two perfectly standalone genres and mix them together with such aplomb, such a harmonious coming together which really make this game a delight to play and one which is ultimately fun. It is a game you will not put down until the credits roll. It really is something unique and special. I am not a golfing fan other than watching Sergio Garcia win his first major, but I am an RPG fan and I like taking part in lots of fun challenges which is not all purely golf-orientated. There is loads of enjoyment to be had if you just give it the chance. If you do, it will seduce you with its charm. I could not put it down, and the variety in this game is outstanding. You would not have thought you could do so many things with golf, but it’s fantastically imaginative.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has been out for some time, yet it’s still a great turn-based strategy game, and the additional DLC that has been added is impressive. Don’t be fooled by its cutesy look, this is a surprisingly deep strategy game with classes, strengths, weaknesses, and cover mechanics. This type of game is always great on the move for those pick-up and play short bursts, and at under £10, it offers strong value plus there is co-op on offer! This is always one of the better bargains when it shows up.

Little Nightmares Complete Edition

Little Nightmares is a great little horror game from Bandai Namco that is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch. If you want an incredibly eerie atmosphere with some truly grotesque imagery, look no further. It was a tad expensive at it’s original asking price, but with 60% off, it’s something you can’t say no to. It’s been this low before and probably will be again in the future, but you still shouldn’t miss out on bargains like this to prepare yourself for the sequel coming later this year.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a special title. The spiritual successor of the Wonder Boy series, this metroidvania platformer is one of the best there is with excellent controls and wonderful gameplay supported by beautiful graphics and one of the very best soundtracks we’ve heard on the Switch. This is not one to be missed! Everyone can enjoy this regardless of age or skill level.

Transistor

Following up Bastion was a tall ask for Supergiant Games, but they delivered yet again, creating a wonderful sci-fi world with rich storytelling and engrossing RPG action that surpasses the combat in the first title. The hand painted artwork, wonderful narration, and dynamic soundtrack round out this complete package, and the Switch port is fine work. This runs perfectly on the Switch whether on the move or docked. You cannot go wrong with this rich, immersive solo experience.

The Messenger

As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor. The messenger is one of the strongest indie titles on the Switch. I love its retro style and chip tunes, plus its branching paths to discover.

Thimbleweed Park

The Switch has seen a real revival of point-and-click adventures with strong outings all over the place. Thimbleweed Park is one of my favorites with its quirky humor that breaks down the fourth wall and its throwback to the X-Files where you feel as though you are playing as Mulder and Scully, investigating the strange going-ons in the town of Thimbleweed Park. It’s a brilliant little game with some tough but not outrageous puzzles.

SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition

The Steamworld series has a wonderful steampunk vibe, and this time it’s back in the form of a turned-based strategy game, featuring a brilliant soundtrack recorded by Steam Powered Giraffe and gorgeous visuals, you and your team of robots roam the galaxy in a space adventure. The gameplay is deep and rewarding with an excellent aiming mechanic and lots of combos. Cover and strategic decisions are to be made, and there are countless hours of tactical fun to be had. This is perfect either on a TV or in handheld mode, and with 75% off, this is one of the epic bargains currently on the eShop. One that all fans of the strategy genre should consider picking up!

Child of Light Ultimate Edition

Child of light from Ubisoft is a stunning RPG. This is critically-acclaimed for all sorts of reasons, and it’s now an unmissable 70% off. This is the cheapest it’s ever been on the Nintendo Switch. Yes, it’s an Ubisoft game, which means it’ll be on sale regularly, but I doubt it will get more money off than this for quite a while. It’s now just £4.80 in the UK and 5.99 in Euros. Everything from the watercolor visuals to the quirky Brothers Grimm fairy tale story line, and the well thought out battle mechanics are superb.

Crypt of the NecroDancer: Nintendo Switch Edition

It’s not often that a rhythm-based game comes up with something new, but that’s exactly what Crypt of the Necrodancer has done to fantastic effect! It turns out that combining beats and dungeon-crawling results in a brilliant and exciting game. The tunes are spot on and the gameplay is no slouch. The developers followed this up with Cadence of Hyrule, essentially the same gameplay with characters from The Legend of Zelda. Although that is a blast to play, having the original for just £3.59 makes this one of the real bargains this week.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition

There is something really satisfying about an arcade style, over-the-top action RPG, and Darksiders Warmastered Edition delivers! The developer decided to give us an interesting choice with this excellent port where you can choose performance or detail by switching modes. If you prefer the fast pace and don’t mind slightly lower graphics, then you have that choice, or you can enjoy it in all its glory visually with a slightly slower pace, that is also available. Juan reviewed this one which you can check out by clicking HERE.

Furi

Furi is a boss battler that certainly lives up to its name! Each battle is tough and engaging and not very forgiving! To succeed, you will need to first fail and learn the path to victory which is all about pattern recognition. The game has a very cool sci-fi samurai look about it that bleeds into the gameplay as you need to figure out how to defend in order to setup successful attacks, so it’s no surprise to find anime master Takashi Okazaki is responsible for the character design.

GRIS

GRIS is a wonderful experience from the great publisher Devolver Digital. The protagonist Gris is a young girl dealing with a painful experience in her life. The beauty of the game is how her sorrow manifests through the girl’s dress which then grants her new abilities. A fantastic story where no words need to be used, as this game has the ability to transcend its message through its wonderful visuals and musical score.

de blob bargains

At over 10 years old, de blob has found its way from the Wii to the Nintendo Switch, and it’s a solid home for this puzzle platformer. This one oozes charm throughout, and its core mechanic of painting items to progress still works. Some of the game’s bugs and quirks were ironed out, but it’s still not quite perfect. Nevertheless, with a whopping 80% off, this is worth looking at.

There are over 60 items and powerups to collect throughout the game. Learning what weapons and setups to use for puzzles and epic battles is all part of the fun. The developer, Thomas Happ, just did an amazing job creating an experience so good that you genuinely want to 100% it. It can be a bit challenging at times, but it never feels unfair. Truly an amazing game from start to finish, making this one of the best bargains currently available.
