Hello and welcome back to our weekly eShop Switch games sale roundup, where we help you cut through the noise and find the best bargains across the UK, EU, and US eShops. I hope everyone is staying safe with the corona virus outbreak. The Switch is certainly helping me keep my sanity during the lockdown!
Let us know your pick of the week in the comments as each week we give away a $10 eShop voucher to one person who shared their pick. Later on, we will announce last week’s winner, but for now let’s jump in and take a look at these deals.
Hyper Light Drifter
James: Kicking things off with my pick of the week, it’s Hyper Light Drifter. This is a masterpiece set in a glorious, neon-pixelated world. What I love is how the game manages to portray a deep story without any language – text or voiced. What you do know is that your home world is invaded and you play as the drifter – a caped sword wielder who clearly isn’t well, as you spew blood from time to time. The world setting is fantastic! There are giant dying titans and a shadowy monster lurking. My personal take is that this is a world in the distant future where technology is almost forgotten and old, but the beauty is you will see what your mind interprets.
Combat is punishing and twitch sensitive. The game blends RPG and action gameplay extremely well, and the special edition on the Switch is the definitive version full of small upgrades. It feels perfectly at home on the Nintendo Switch.
The game feels a bit like a SNES Zelda, but that’s not to say it’s not original. It definitely has its own personality, which oozes through the difficult and unforgiving gameplay. You won’t be taking on 20 enemies at a time here, either. It’s all above mastering the dash and slash controls in order to progress through the games open world – that is if you can take on the enemies in your path!
Visually, the world is created so well. I find the use of bright neons and dark areas to be wonderful. It is lush in places, but there are hardships and devastation visible throughout. The soundtrack by Disasterpeace is the perfect backdrop, too. It has a sci-fi eerie quality to it that would be worthy of an epic film. All in all, this is a tough but brilliant game worth investing in – especially at half price!

Juan and Jordan – What are your picks for this week’s Best Bargains?
VASARA Collection
Jordan: Hello, everyone. It’s Jordan here with my pick of the week. You guys know I love a shmup once in a while, and when a very good one is at a bargain basement price, it’s got to be my pick of the week. Yes, the VASARA Collection, a game that I reviewed for this channel is 90% off, which I find crazy. It was $9.99, but now it’s only 99 cents in the US and, although it may not be in my personal top favorite shooters on the Switch, for that price it’s impossible not to call it an absolute bargain. There’s no better shooter for that price, I guarantee. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a sale on this one in Europe. But if this sale is successful, no doubt they will try over there too. Alright, that’s my pick of the week. Check out my review of it if you need any more convincing.

Yomawari: The Long Night Collection
Juan: NIS America this week are going all out to get our cash, and here is another game which deserves attention. This is a haunting double pack which includes the Night Alone and Midnight Shadows Yomawari games. The story involves a young girl walking her pet dog, but an unfortunate accident befalls the pet. As a number of events take place, the girl goes back to town to find her dog and sister only to find the town has become a nightmare in the dark. Finding clues is the name of the game to solve these mysteries. And at 50% off, this can now be nabbed for 20 bucks, which in our review is worth the outlay.

Pinstripe
Pinstripe is a game made by just one man over a periods of 5 years. If there were ever a time to support a dev, this would be it. A little horror game where you play as Teddy, forced to venture through a frozen afterlife in search of his 3-year-old daughter. The levels are beautiful and haunting with a wonderful soundtrack to boot. Solving mysteries while you go, Jordan reviewed it and quite enjoyed it, and it’s a no-brainer now for the price.

Donut County
Donut County is a neat little game which we enjoyed very much and certainly does not outstay its welcome. Here we have a story about BK the Racoon who is one of many Raccoons that have taken over Donut county with remote-controlled trash-stealing holes. Why do they do this? Well, it is to earn prizes, of course. One day as BK falls into one of his own holes and is confronted by his friends, they demand to know what the crack is. If you like physics games, then this is for you. It also has a bit of puzzle thrown in for good measure as well as exploration. This is a great little game to play and can be completed in an afternoon.

Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle
I played the first Knights of Pen and Paper on my iPhone and thoroughly enjoyed its quirky take on a bunch of friends getting together to play Dungeons and Dragons. It’s a game full of hilarious moments, big bad enemies, and silly things going on. It’s right at home in handheld given it’s origins. This bundle includes the finished articles of 1 and 2 complete with touch ups and DLC. You can buy either on sale at the moment or even a triple bundle that includes Galaxy of Pen and Paper, which I also enjoyed. But in terms of value, I felt this bundle was best placed.

82 campaign chapters in which decisions even lead to differing endings and lots of gear to to discover and upgrade your characters with. With an amazing 50% off in all regions, this is an absolute bargain for £6,79, $7,49 or 7,49 in Euros respectively.

A Case of Distrust
If you like your narrative mysteries, then this one set in 1924 San Francisco might just be for you. You play as a private investigator in this 2D adventure. It’s all about catching suspects by using evidence, statements, your gut, and your wit. It’s not the best looking game in the world, but for $2.99 and 80% off, this is one you can spend an evening with. A nice cup of tea or coffee and relax while solving the mystery.

Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory
If unfamiliar with these games, they are action RPGs with a timing based tactical element to combat. I say these games, because this is a collection of two games; Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion and Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire. Flames of Rebellion was released on PS Vita while Sins of an Empire was released as its counterpart, the PS4. These games tell two sides of the same story. One follows the rebellious Laendur, while the other follows the empress Octavia, in their war against each other.
These were made with the same assets and have the exact same gameplay. If you are familiar with Fire Emblem, this probably seems familiar, since Fire Emblem Fates has two parts that pit you in the warring kingdoms of Nohr and Hoshido. Rise to Glory also includes a few new side missions, 5 secret characters, a new game +, and a one life mode. These additions truly make this the definitive edition of Fallen Legion. They are quite repetitive and reuse a lot of assets, but they are good fun at the same time.

Bomber Crew
You want a flight simulator, then Bomber Crew has you covered. This is a great little flight simulator which is going to put your multi-tasking skills to the absolute test. You can customize your plane and manage everything from hydraulics, fuel, and ammo, but to name a few. Once in the skies, danger is everywhere, and it’s up to you to make sure your crew is prepared so that they can survive and excel in each mission. This also comes in a wonderful signature edition which Juan unboxed on the channel, so feel free to head over to SignatureEditionGames.com to check it out.

Beholder: Complete
Beholder: Complete is a narrative award-winning dark dystopian adventure. Here you get to do all sorts of stuff, like spy on your tenants, bug their apartments, and then report or help them. It’s a very interesting game indeed. You are Carl Stein, a government-installed landlord which of course is a façade to hide your real mission, which is to spy on your tenants.
With 75% off in all regions, this is now a real bargain.

The Lost Child
The Lost Child’s incredibly off-putting original price of $50 is looking a lot more palatable at just $20, now with 60% off. Let’s face it, it feels like we’ve been waiting for Shin Megami Tensei since the beginning of time on the Switch, so in the mean time, this is a decent alternative. It is basically a knock-off, and that’s not a bad thing either.

Rogue Aces
Rouge Aces is a brilliant 2D arcade shooter that looks wonderful and is tough yet fun to play. You take control of a fighter plane, and after getting to grips with the controls you are off. Your objectives are generally to destroy the enemy and then safely land again – something that is tougher than it sounds! There are 100 levels to enjoy, and as you get further and upgrade your plane, you really start to feel awesome. The soundtrack is decent, but it’s the thrilling controls and gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. This is a fantastic deal at such a low price.

Seeders Puzzle Reboot
Okay. Confession time. This is in here because it’s 11 cents and was reduced from $9.99. This is a very simple-looking puzzler but actually quite challenging. We would not have recommended it at $9.99, but for 11 cents, why not?!

Black the Fall
Black the Fall is a puzzle platformer that harks back to the Cold War and the rise of communism. It’s a visual novel in the sense that its focus is its story through sometimes obscure interpretations, but it’s an interesting tale. The Switch version does have a few creaky parts to it in the performance side, but it’s a nice, short experience. And now, it’s at its lowest ever price point with 70% off.

Featuring seven campaigns and 49 missions that engage players in white-knuckle air battles and secret missions across Europe and North Africa. It plays very well indeed, and for just £1,49, $1,99 in the US and EU, this is a must for the price with 90% off.
